Position Description

Tutor (Mathematics)

           College Achievement Program

 

SUMMARY

Incumbent will provide high quality academic support to students seeking help in Mathematics; Reports directly, and is under general supervision of the Director of the College Achievement Program. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.   Tutors students individually or in scheduled group study sessions to review principles, solve problems, and review for tests.

2.   Establishes and maintains work schedule with students.

3.   Maintains all records required to document students' attendance and academic progress.

4.   Maintains and updates confidential files and records.

5.   Attends in-service tutorial trainings and staff meetings as requested.

6.   Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. To assist faculty in coordinating learning activities in the Tutorial Services Center; to lead supplemental instruction for respective math courses.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Tutoring schedule (assigned hours and days) will depend on students’ needs.  Minimum 20 hours per week – Monday – Saturday.  

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

M.A. is preferred but will consider an individual with a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate field of assignment and one year of instructional experience at a high school or college level; or, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
