May, 2005 Presidential Update

 

  • The recent election results have been tallied and the results are as follows;

President-Elect – Sidney Childs, Bowling Green State University

Secretary – Sherice Freeman, Kent State University

Treasurer – John Vesalo, The University of Akron

I am asking the membership to congratulate the 2005 - 2006 Board, which will have Amy Reed, Xavier University as President.

  • MAEOPP Board Meeting Updates

·         As of May 13, 2005 we have 132 OAEOPP members.  We have 13 that became inactive as of March 1 and April 1 of 2005.  I implore each of you to check your status with President-Elect Amy Reed.

·         Madame President, Jane Agyeman gave her report which included the following;

§         New officers of COE – Board Chair – Ronald Gross, Secretary – Darlene Cornwell

§         MAEOPP is currently at 86% for fair share.  We need to be at 100% by June 24th.  OAEOPP is currently at 89% of it’s goal.  If each of the members were to contribute $51 to fair share or obtain an Equality subscription then we would meet our goal.  Please contact Pamela Rodgers, University of Toledo, to see how you may contribute. 

§         Larry Oxendine update to COE Board – 6 de-funded SSS programs would be re-funded pending the appeal process; The ETS and EOC grants will be submitted electronically with ETS having a 75 page limit and EOC having a 50 page limit.  Also, October will more than likely be the due date for applications.  The Department technical assistance workshops will be in June and July.

·         There are two new officers to the MAEOPP Education Foundation – Doug Harder and Lee Stevenson.  The foundation assets for the Pruitt Fund are $6,204.55 and the Purnell Fund $15,636.08.  TRIO bracelets can be obtained from the OAEOPP chapter for $3.00 each with a portion of the proceeds going to the MAEOPP Foundation towards the Pruitt and Purnell funds and the remaining portion going towards OAEOPP scholarships. 

·         Sarah Jeong, University of Akron Upward Bound Math/Science participant was the Ohio recipient of the MAEOPP scholarship.

·         The MAEOPP Research Journal has a deadline submission of Friday, June 17, 2005 and a publication date of Wednesday, August 31, 2005.  The summer newsletter deadline for submission is Thursday, June 30, 2005, the Fall newsletter submission deadline is Friday, August 5, 2005 and the Winter deadline submission is Friday, October 28, 2005.   Please contact Corazon McGee for submissions.

·         Each chapter has been asked to recruit two applicants for the Institute for the Advancement of Leadership and Program Management, which will be held at the annual conference in November, 2005.  Those who are interested need to contact Amy Reed, President-Elect or myself.

·         The Annual Professional Conference Committee is requesting photos from programs and historical photos from the Abbey for the conference.  They are also asking for volunteers.  Please contact Kurt Roberts, University of Iowa.

·          The MAEOPP student leadership conferences and Math Science Symposium registration information will be available some time in June.
