Strategic Plan for 2005-2009

 

Vision

 

The Ohio Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel will provide a significant voice for the concerns and interests of first generation, low-income, disabled students at the state capital, in the nation’s capital and throughout Ohio.

 

The members of the Ohio Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel will be recognized by Ohio policy leaders and by the public as providing leadership in improving college access in Ohio.

 

The Ohio Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel will actively engage professionals from TRIO and other educational opportunity programs in Ohio in professional development and program improvement.

 

Mission

 

The purpose of the Ohio Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel shall be to bring together into a work and study community those persons who have an active interest in or who are professionally involved in broadening accessibility to and success in formal postsecondary education.

 

Goal 1:            OAEOPP in collaboration with partner organizations will develop and provide leadership opportunities for professionals and students to emerge as leaders in the college access movement for first generation and low-income individuals in Ohio.

 

  • Develop an inclusive list of partner organizations
  • Invite partner organizations to the professional development conference
  • Encourage local partners to establish means of collaboration
  • Encourage and invite students from partner organizations to participate in the student leadership conference
  • Sponsor an annual Director’s luncheon to encourage participation and support for the association’s programs and leadership efforts
  • Increase the visibility of TRIO programs in NCAN, OCAN  and GEAR UP activities
  • Create a one day forum for student leaders in Columbus to meet with Ohio political and educational leaders

Goal 2:            OAEOPP will strengthen its strategic and financial position by developing a comprehensive fiscal plan utilizing financial support from diverse entities, such as corporations, foundations and alumni.

 

  • Develop a comprehensive fiscal plan
  • Implement a fundraising event at least once a year
  • Solicit corporate sponsorships and grant opportunities
  • Develop an alumni directory for creating an alumni fundraising event

Goal 3:            OAEOPP will develop strategies to become a prominent advocate and communication network to federal and state legislators providing awareness and support for TRIO programs and their participants.

 

  • Expand the annual state legislative forum
  • Encourage program personnel to attend the national policy seminar in Washington, DC
  • Investigate the feasibility of a state office for OAEOPP in Columbus, OH
  • Encourage state legislators to participate in OAEOPP and local TRIO program activities
  • Provide a vehicle for students to have input into state legislative decision-making
  • Advocate for state funding for TRIO programs

Goal 4:            OAEOPP will compile and share best practices and performance data on TRIO/college access programs, provide assistance for program improvement, and conduct and disseminate research that will encourage policy makers, educators and the public to support and improve higher educational opportunities for underrepresented populations.

 

  • Increase the percentage of TRIO programs submitting student data to the Higher Education Information (HEI) system to at least 90%
  • Utilize Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS TRIO) trained professionals to assist in individual program improvements
  • Explore the feasibility of an OAEOPP journal of best practices and TRIO program data
  • Increase the number of TRIO programs implementing the CAS TRIO standards
